Covid-19: Man Claiming To Have Virus Spits At Officers, Police Say

A Connecticut man who was having a fight with his roommate was arrested for allegedly spitting on police and then claimed to have the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Stephen McCarthy, 27, of Milford, was arrested on Thursday, April 30, after Milford Police responded to a Meadowside Road home for a domestic incident, said the Milford Police.

When officers arrived on the scene they attempted to arrest McCarthy who is allegedly accused of spitting towards officers and stating he had COVID-19, police said.

McCarthy allegedly resisted attempts to be placed in handcuffs and threatened officers on scene and their families, police added. 

He was charged with:

  • Two counts assault on a police officer
  • Criminal attempt assault on a police officer
  • Interfering with an officer
  • Threatening

McCarthy is being on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 15.
